The Junior section

The Junior Section caters for boys and girls aged between 8 and 18 and has a membership of 110. It runs a very active programme of competitions, matches with other clubs and professional coaching. A vital part of all golf is your handicap which allows you to compete on even terms with players of higher or lower standard. Our current Juniors have handicaps from 47 (beginners) down to very low single figures. A special Junior Handicapping scheme, enables members to progress steadily towards establishing an Official Club Handicap. Once accepted we hope you will take part in as many Junior Events as possible especially since we have a waiting list and if you join but don't play you are keeping someone else out. We hope that as well as joining in the organised events you will fix up games with friends who are also Junior Members. An up-to-date list of the names, handicaps, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of Junior members can be found on the Juniors' Noticeboard. 

Competitions

Players of limited experience (with a high handicap) will usually play in Junior Competitions with an Adult member until they become good enough to play with another junior of approximately the same standard. Once their handicap gets down to 28 you may enter any senior competition within the main Club - put your name on the entry sheet in the Hall.

Matches

Our Juniors play many matches against the junior sections of other clubs. These include fourteen fixtures in the Southdowns League and participation in the Greenjackets competition, which is a scratch team event.  Players for these events are selected on merit, but high handicap juniors often have the opportunity to play in our nine friendly matches. Transport to away matches is available in the club mini-bus.

Professional Coaching

Just Before most of the Junior Competitions there is a group coaching session with either the club Professional or his Assistant. This is free to our Juniors. You can, of course, fix individual lessons with the Professional or Assistant

Timetable

Times for Junior events in 2008 are as follows:

A CONGU handicap is 28.4 and below.  Coaching will be in small groups in 1/2 hour sessions and you will be e-mailed both your time on the practice ground and on the first tee.  Elite Group coaching will be by individual appointment and is your responsibility.
