Liphook Golf Club

Smoking Policy

INTRODUCTION

The Club’s policy is designed to be in line with government legislation, while refraining from impinging on people’s liberties. We do not believe banning smoking on the course is appropriate. We believe that the responsibility for due care and attention lies with the individual. This responsibility falls into two categories:

• RISK OF FIRE!

In recent years, hot summers in the UK have led to a spate of wildfires throughout the Country. On our heathland, we are particularly susceptible to the risk of fire. With that in mind, we ask that anyone smoking follow our safe code of practice.

• KEEP LIPHOOK GOLF CLUB TIDY!

Cigarette butts and cigars are litter; therefore, they must be regarded as litter around the course. We ask that everyone dispose of their cigarette/cigar butts in a tidy and environmentally friendly manner. They must not be discarded anywhere on the course and should be properly disposed of in designated disposal areas around the clubhouse.

SAFE CODE OF PRACTICE

• Clubhouse
Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is only permitted outside the clubhouse in designated areas. Please ensure cigarette butts and other smoking waste are disposed of properly in the designated ashtrays on the upper patio and smoking bins by the main entrance. This helps keep the course clean and reduces fire hazards.

• Course
Cigarette butts are not biodegradable. Please respect the course and the risk of fire by carrying a cigarette pouch for ash and cigarette butts. “Minibins” and “Keep Britain tidy butt boxes” are recommended. It is the responsibility of the individual to acquire these items; however, a supply will be made available in the clubhouse and Pro Shop.

Note
We are confident that this policy will be successful and that our members will respect and follow the rules. However, should these guidelines not be observed, we may be left with no choice but to revisit the policy or reintroduce restrictions.
